How visits are counted

To know how many people use LingoCon and which pages they read, your browser sends a small anonymous signal when you open a page, and about every 25 seconds while the tab is in front of you.

  • No cookie is set and nothing is stored on your device.
  • The statistics never store your IP address. Together with your browser's name and a random value that changes every day, it is turned into a code that only means something for that day: the random value is deleted when the day is over, after which the code can no longer be matched to an address, and visits on different days cannot be linked.
  • Pages are recorded by type, such as “a language's dictionary”. Only public languages are named; search terms, IDs and the names of private or unlisted projects are never recorded.
  • With each page view we also record the website you came from (its domain only), whether you use a phone, tablet or computer, and the hour.
  • We record whether a visitor is signed in, never who they are.
  • Detailed records are deleted after 90 days; after that, only daily totals remain.
  • If your browser sends Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control, your visits are not counted.
  • Like most websites, the web server also keeps technical access logs, which include IP addresses, for security and troubleshooting; they are not used for these statistics.
