"Bandalizing" Names

"What the frick does that mean?"

Basically, to make sure spelling is consistent with pronunciation 100% of the time, I change the spelling of names to match Bandalish phonetics when I use them in Bandalish sentences. Most of the time it isn't that bad, sometimes no changes need to be made, and then sometimes you won't even recognize the name anymore.

Names that don't need changes

There are a lot, but just so you get the idea, here are some examples:

Bob -> Bob

Tom -> Tom

Mark -> Mark

Owen -> Owen

Mario -> Mario

Adam -> Adam

Anna -> Anna

Ben -> Ben

Ian -> Ian

Leo -> Leo

Liam -> Liam

William -> William

Maria -> Maria

Arianna -> Arianna

Rozzey -> Rozzey

You get the idea, it's mostly short names. But these could also be optionally changed to match Bandalish phonetics a bit more precisely.

Names that need slight changes

These are names that only need very small spelling changes because of letters like X, C, or Q or short vowel sequences like "au" "eo" or "ao" or maybe a silent letter that needs to be cut. Usually nothing too bad, but do expect a diacritic every now and then. Most changes are like when a name uses "au" and it sounds like "ah," but in Bandalish, "au" sounds like "ow," so it has to be changed or else it won't sound right. Or when an "i" or "y" sounds like the Bandalish diphthongs "ei" and "ai," so I change them to that. Or when "a" sounds like "ay," so I make it "eh" and... this is rather long, so I'll just give you some names:

Harrison -> Härrison

Declan -> Deklan (I mostly use Däklan for precision though)

Cole -> Kol

Hope -> Hop

Wyatt -> Weiatt or Waiatt

Aiden -> Ehden

Mazey -> Mehzey

Aubrey -> Aabrey (I guess technically the second A isn't necessary but whatever)

Victor -> Viktor

Carl -> Karl

Eric -> Erik or Ärik

Michael -> Meikel, Meikal, Maikel, or Maikal

Steven -> Stiven

Damien -> Dehmien

Paul -> Paal

Ryan -> Reian or Raian

Orion -> Oreion, Oraion, Oreian, or Oraian

Jonah -> Džonah (You would probably drop the H though)

Again, not that bad. And like I said, there's a lot of variations possible.

Asher -> Æšör

Jasper -> Džæspör

Catherine -> Kæþrin

Charlotte -> Šarlot

Sean -> Šaan

Matthew -> Mæþyu

Jude -> Džud

George -> Džordž

Fortunately (for your eyes), that's all I could really think of. There's definitely more though, probably.

So anyway, now you get how it works.
