Guthokh has a basic syllable shape of (C)(C)V(C).

Guthokh only permits two vowel sounds next to each other, and they must be separated by a syllable break.

When two of the same vowel sounds touch, a "glottal vowel" is used after the first vowel. For example, when the verbiチグ(itigu) is given the third-person present singular affixi(i), it doesn't becomeiチi(itii), it becomesiチí(itiỉ). This changes the sound from /i.'ti.i/ to /i.'ti.ʔi/.
