Pitch Accent

Σὴμα uses a pitch accent(called ἆτι) instead of a stress accent

There are three types of Accents:

• High tone (called κίτἰ), which uses the acute accent

• Low tone (called κὰ), which uses the grave accent

• Falling tone (called κῦδ), which uses the circumflex

The accent used in a word changes based on the vowel of the syllable to the right of the accented syllable, or, if the accent is placed on the ultimate syllable, if there is a consonant after it.

What never changes about the accent is its place in a word.
