It is the national language of Sunda. Sundese is spoken by around 71 million people (for context, Sunda has 76 million people). It nearly became extinct because the British took over and banned the language. Sundese is interesting because it uses SVO (Subject-Verb-Object). Sunda became independent in 1902. It was taken by the British in 1796. It was first considered a national language in 1497. Before that, it was just a majority language.
