Verb Conjugation
In Atanian, verbs are conjugated, which means that specific endings are added to verbs to indicate who is performing an action. This allows the subject to be omitted from a sentence because the verb ending already identifies the person performing the action. In this system, specific suffixes are used for different pronouns or subjects.
The suffixes are as follows:
Pronoun | Conjungation |
|---|---|
Jäg | i |
Du | s |
Han / Hun | st |
Den / Dat | sten |
Vi | en |
Di | s |
Ðat | st |
For example:
For Example you can say: |
|---|
Jäg mitti = I eat |
Ðat gåhst = They go |
Important Note about "Jäg":
You can omit the pronoun Jäg (meaning “I”) without adding any suffix to the verb. Alternatively, you can use an apostrophe (') in its place.
For example:
Jäg gåhi = Jäg gåh' = Jäg gåh
Auxiliary Verbs:
Auxiliary verbs such as er, weis, habb, and klank are not conjugated. They remain the same for all subjects, regardless of the pronoun or person.
