4.1 What is a pronoun?

A pronoun is a word that can stand in for a noun or refer to a person or thing.

English examples include “I”, “you”, “she”, “it” and “they”.

4.2 Subject and object forms

Čago will use the same pronoun form for subjects and objects.

English distinguishes between “I” and “me”, but Čago will not need separate forms for those grammatical roles.

4.3 Singular and plural “you”

Čago distinguishes between:

Singular you: addressing one person.

Plural you: addressing more than one person.

The language will not have a grammatical formal-versus-informal distinction.

4.4 Inclusive and exclusive “we”

Čago will distinguish two meanings of “we”.

English normally uses the same word, “we”, for both. Čago will have separate pronouns for these meanings.

4.5 Optional gender-specific pronouns

Čago may have optional gender-specific pronoun alternatives. These will not create grammatical gender for nouns.

4.6 The impersonal pronoun

Čago will have a special impersonal pronoun similar in function to French on, which can refer to people generally or to an unspecified person.

The exact pronouns, including this impersonal form, remain to be created.
