# Articles, conjunctions and prepositions
## Articles and the conjunction "and"
| English | NLS |
|---------|-----|
| a / an / 1 (indefinite art. / numeral) | en- (initial prefix) / en |
| the (definite art.) | -ne (final suffix) |
| and (conjunction) | da |
| removed: see sik + noun | — |
| in the | net |
> Confirmed rule: all contracted prepositions (to the, from the, etc.) are formed with preposition + suffix -ne, the same pattern as in the (*net*). Examples: to the = ut-ne, from the = it-ne, on the = bado-ne, with the = fuk-ne.
The plural of the definite article does not require a separate suffix: the plural is already expressed by the suffix -ra on the noun, so -ne stays the same in the plural too (e.g. arrue-ra-ne = "the houses").
> Update: the suffix -ssa (Italian del/degli/delle/dei-equivalent, roughly "of the") has been removed: it was redundant, since the same result is obtained by composing rules that already exist — sik (of) + noun, with -ra (plural) and/or -ne (definiteness) added as needed. The two categories (plural and definiteness) are independent and combine freely:
>
> sik kett = of friend (generic)
> sik kett*-ne* = of the friend
> sik kett*-ra* = of friends
> sik kett*-ra-ne* = of the friends
