Verbal Affix
In änglosax, all nouns can be declined directly into a stative predicate, "to be X / be X" without a separate verb. This function is carried out by the verbal affix. Which acts as a pseudo-case as it replaces the case the noun had previously.
Morphology
The verbal affix is -yn, it doesn't distinguish plural:
Singular | Plural |
|---|---|
-yn | -yn |
Examples
fer (fire) -> feryn (≈ to be fire / be fire)
god (good) -> godyn (≈ to be good / be good)
Copula shenanigans
In the present tense, the copula is emmited directly. The verb declined noun alone carries the full predicate meaning:
wu feryn · You are fire
In lexical tenses (excluding the present tense), the tense suffix becomes a particle:
wu é feryn · You were fire
But in copula tenses, the copula returns but the verbal affix is still kept:
wu beu godyn · You will be good
