Historical Development

Like all major Neo-Black Speech languages, the primitive precursors of Black Speech appeared soon after the awakening of the Elves in Cuiviénen, a period when all Elves spoke the same language. Tolkien referred to this period as Primitive Quendian or Common Quenderin [CQ]; Some of these Elves were taken by Morgoth in the beginning and tortured horribly in order to create Orcs. They retained much of their language, just twisted and evil. These Utumno Orkish [UO] dialects eventually were culled when Utumno was destroyed by the Valar. Thus, only the Angband Orkish [ABO] dialect survived. ABO soon developed into many different dialects which now far diverged from CQ. These had the influence of Valarin from the Melkian or Oroqueain languge [UQ] language creates by Morgoth (The Lost Road). These again were culled by the War of Wrath.

Of these dialects only the Northern Proto-Orkish dialect [NPO] and Southern Proto-Orkish dialect [SPO] survived. The NPO dialect would go on to become the foundation of Black Speech and its decendants Nûrlâm, Shadowlandian, Rûkh Nûlûrz, etc. Interestingly, Yrksk also is decended from NPO with heavy influence from its brother: Black Speech.

SPO, on the other hand, went on to spawn MERP, Svartiska, Zhâburi A, Zhâburi B, Proto-Yambúrz, Horngoth, and Mugbûrz. This was, of course, after heavy influence from Black Speech. This reached the level to which these were considered simple sub-dialects of Black Speech rather than having their own history.

From here, the story of Yambúrz is chronicled in the Introduction.

Men who speak Yambúrz had no idea what the PO languages were like and were forced to reconstruct the most ancient form of their language using the same comparative linguistic tools used to study ancient human languages.
