THE ELIZAN BIOLOGY & THE SCRIPT
THE ELIZAN BIOLOGY & THE SCRIPT
1. Anatomy of the Speakers
Physical Stature: The Elizans are naturally short in stature. This gives them a low centre of gravity, immense agility, and extreme energy efficiency. They are built to easily weave through dense forest environments and sprint across unstable ground without losing balance.
Dominant Handedness: The vast majority of the Elizan population is left-handed. This biological trait dictates the design of their tools, their writing style, and the architectural layout of their entire civilization.
2. The Mechanics of the Written Language
Direction of Script: Elizan is written vertically downwards in columns, with the columns progressing from right to left (R-L) across the surface.
The Left-Handed Scribe Advantage: Because they write R-L, a left-handed writer's hand naturally moves away from the column they just finished. This physical layout prevents any smudging or obstruction of the text.
Scroll Mechanics: Because of the R-L column progression, Elizan scrolls are unrolled from left to right. A reader begins scanning at the top-right corner, reads down to the bottom, and then moves their eyes to the next column to the left.
3. The Material and Tools
The Inkless Canvas: The Elizans do not use fluid ink. Instead, their writing is physically and permanently etched into the soft inner bark (liber) peeled from the branches of living Ua
(Trees). The Stylus: Writing is executed using a sharp, heavy stylus carved out of animal Shu-it (Bone) or Ni-bua (Hard Stone), held firmly in the left hand.
The Debris Clearing: As the left hand carves from right to left, it naturally brushes away the wood shavings and dust (Suv) onto the unwritten space on the left, keeping the active text entirely clean.
