Definite Articles (The)

1 min read · 105 words

Varzruk uses two definite articles for the word "the": Dus, Dis.

Varzruk does not have grammatical gender. Nouns are not masculine, feminine, or neuter. Instead, the choice of article is based on the sound structure of the noun.

The article is determined by whether the noun begins with a vowel sound or a consonant sound.

  • Dus is used before nouns beginning with vowel sounds.

  • Dis is used before nouns beginning with consonant sounds.

Examples:

  • Dus Apol — the apple

  • Dis Hous — the house

The article agrees with the beginning sound of the noun, not with the noun's meaning or gender.
