Asteran Conjunction System
Shape Rule
Asteran conjunctions are usually short particles.
Preferred shapes:
CV with long vowel
VC with long vowel
Examples:
lā, wē, cī, sā, sū, cā, dō, rī, tē, sē, āt
The language avoids conjunctions that look identical to established noun endings such as:
-ēn, -ōn, -am, -ūm, -ās, -īs, -ul, -īl
Coordinating Conjunctions
Asteran | Meaning | Notes |
|---|---|---|
lā | and | from older/longer lan-type form |
wē | or | clear, open, easy to chant |
cō | but | contrast particle |
nac lā | nor / and not | built from negation + and |
Examples:
astoram lā malgam cala
= I bind the cantor and the fracture.
astoram wē malgam cala
= I bind the cantor or the fracture.
astor malgam calei cō malc nac caleit
= The cantor binds the fracture, but the fracture is not bound.
astor malgam nac calei nac lā cordam nac sacei
= The cantor does not bind the fracture, nor does he/she/it seal the chord.
Logical and Ritual Connectors
Asteran | Meaning |
|---|---|
sā | because |
āt | therefore, thus |
sū | so that, in order that |
Examples:
astor malgam calei sā corda sacrau anei
= The cantor binds the fracture because the chord is sacred.
corda sacrau anei. āt astor malgam calei.
= The chord is sacred. Therefore the cantor binds the fracture.
astor cordam calei sū malc calāreit
= The cantor binds the chord so that the fracture may be bound.
Purpose clauses with sū often use the subjunctive.
Conditional and Concessive Conjunctions
Asteran | Meaning |
|---|---|
cī | if |
cī nac | unless / if not |
mō | although / even though |
Examples:
cī malc nac caleit, astor malgam caltei
= If the fracture is not bound, the cantor will bind the fracture.
cī nac malc caleit, astor malgam caltei
= Unless the fracture is bound, the cantor will bind the fracture.
mō malc caleit, astor nac sacrau anei
= Although the fracture is bound, the cantor is not sacred.
Temporal Prepositions vs. Temporal Conjunctions
This is the beautiful pattern.
The preposition is used before a noun.
The conjunction is used before a clause.
The conjunction is formed by dropping the final consonant and lengthening the vowel.
Meaning | Preposition + Noun | Clause Conjunction | Pattern |
|---|---|---|---|
before | cas | cā | cas → cā |
after | dol | dō | dol → dō |
during / while | ris | rī | ris → rī |
until | ten | tē | ten → tē |
since | sen | sē | sen → sē |
This means I would replace the old cai with cas for “before + noun,” because cas → cā fits the system much better.
Temporal Prepositions with Nouns

|---|---|
cas ritalul | before the rite |
dol ritalul | after the rite |
ris ritalul | during the rite |
ten ritalai | until the rite |
sen ritalō | since the rite |
Temporal Conjunctions with Clauses
Asteran | Meaning |
|---|---|
cā | before + clause |
dō | after + clause |
rī | while + clause |
tē | until + clause |
sē | since + clause |
Examples:
cā astor malgam calrei, malc nac caleit
= Before the cantor bound the fracture, the fracture was not bound.
dō astor malgam calrei, malc caleit
= After the cantor bound the fracture, the fracture was bound.
rī astor cordam calei, malc nac caleit
= While the cantor binds the chord, the fracture is not bound.
astor malgam caltei tē malc caleit
= The cantor will bind the fracture until the fracture is bound.
malc caleit sē astor malgam calrei
= The fracture has been bound since the cantor bound it.
