Questions
Ekspi forms questions using a different word order from ordinary statements.
Statements normally use Subject–Verb–Object (SVO) order. Questions use Object–Subject–Verb (OSV) order.
Yes-or-no questions do not require a question particle.
Information questions use a question particle at the beginning of the sentence. The particle indicates the type of information being requested.
The main question particles are:
Particle | Meaning |
ke | who |
ka | what |
lo | where |
ve | when |
se | why |
mi | how |
Question particles do not replace or alter normal noun morphology. Nouns retain their usual case, number, gender, and article forms when used in questions.
The basic structures are:
Yes-or-no question:
Object + Subject + Verb
Information question:
Question particle + Object + Subject + Verb
Questions therefore remain grammatically consistent with the rest of the language while being clearly distinguished from ordinary statements by their word order and, where necessary, their question particle.
